The Miele Guard L1 Electro is Miele's top-of-the-line bagged canister vacuum, built for homes with medium to deep carpet, serious pet hair, and allergy concerns. Its height-adjustable SEB228 Electro Plus powerhead drives its own brush motor for deep carpet cleaning, and Miele builds this machine to the equivalent of 20 years of use.
Most vacuums skim the surface of thick carpet. The pet hair and fine dust you can't see stay woven into the base of the pile, and a leaky machine blows part of what it picks up back into the room. The Guard L1 Electro was built to end both problems: an electrically driven brush that reaches the bottom of the pile, and a sealed bag with HEPA AirClean filtration that captures 99.99% of fine dust and allergens.
Highlights
SEB228 Electro Plus powerhead, a height-adjustable, self-propelled 14-inch electric brush that you guide instead of push, for deep cleaning of looped, textured, and thin to thick cut-pile carpet
HEPA AirClean filtration captures 99.99% of fine dust and allergens, and the ComfortFit sealed bag system keeps them locked in when you change the bag
Automatic suction control reads the floor type and adjusts power for you, with 5 manual stages when you want them
SBD365-3 combination floor tool switches between hard floors and rugs with the flick of a foot
36-foot operating radius from a 24.6-foot cord, so you can do a whole floor from one outlet
Quiet 1200-watt motor (max 75 dB), full-size suction without full-size noise
LCD display and Miele@home app for power settings, maintenance alerts, and control from your phone
Who it's for
Homes with medium to deep carpet, area rugs, or a mix of carpet and hard floors
Pet households: the electric powerhead pulls large amounts of pet hair out of carpets and bare floors alike
Allergy sufferers and anyone who wants the best machine Miele makes, bought once
Mostly bare floors and low-pile rugs? You may not need the electric powerhead this machine is built around. Call or visit our showroom and we'll make sure you're buying the right machine, not the biggest one.
FAQs
Can it handle heavy pet hair? Yes. The height-adjustable SEB228 electric powerhead removes large amounts of pet hair from carpets and rugs, and the combination tool handles hair on hard floors.
Will it deep clean thick carpet? Yes. The brush height adjusts to the pile, so it deep cleans looped, textured, and cut-pile carpet from thin to thick, including plush carpeting.
Do I need the Miele@home app to use it? No. Everything runs from the LCD display and automatic mode on the machine itself. The app is optional and adds remote control, monitoring, and status alerts on your phone.
Is Vacuum Warehouse an authorized Miele dealer? Yes. We are an authorized Miele dealer and an authorized Miele service and warranty centre, so your warranty is honoured in Canada.
What's the warranty? 5 years on parts and labour, and 7 years on the motor.
What bags does it use? It uses 3.5-litre Miele HyClean Air TU dustbags. The LCD display shows a maintenance alert when the machine needs attention, so there is no guesswork about when to change the bag or filter.

Customer Reviews

This is my 2nd purchase with Vacuum Warehouse!! Communication & customer service is amazing, truly! I loooove the aesthetics of this vacuum! It’s beautiful… As with all Miele’s that I’ve owned, it’s an incredible workhorse. It glides across any surface, the electro head is POWERFUL { read instructions & follow} The ONLY detail I miss from my previous model is the top storage & the design of the curtain attachment. This is a very sturdy, well built model. I appreciate the Hepa filter upgrade. The details - handle/arm/connection parts are heavy… they are flexible, however, not as slinky as previous models. Quality, construction & attention to detail justify the higher price tag. IMO, this is the Range Rover of vacuums.. Go ahead, treat yourself :-) You deserve it!!!
While the body of the vaccum seems to be lighter than the previous model I had used for more than 15 years, all other parts are unnecessarily changed to larger in size and heavier in weight which makes it so clumpy to manoeuvre around tight corners and moving between floor levels. Totally hate it.
Best vacuum I’ve ever used, it really sucks every hair and dirt possible without much effort, I highly recommend not only this model like any other Miele.
I'm really trying to like it, but it's not that easy. I have used a central vac for over 20 years. Making the switch to this canister vac is very restricting and cumbersome.
Dragging the machine and power cord around is a real pain. I find myself tripping over it with the machine getting caught up in the cord. With the central vac, wherever I went, the 35' hose simply followed.
Also, the supplied floor attachment is real piece of junk. I've only had it one week, but I have already purchased a replacement for it.
Great vacuum - light weight, loads of suction, easy to manoeuvre. I was surprised that I had to decrease the suction on low pile carpet as the power head almost glued itself to the carpet and extremely hard to push.
I wish there was an option for a hose with on/off and suction control in the handle. This option disappeared when the C3 was removed from the product line.
The vac was dropped shipped from Miele in Richmond BC - one can tell by looking at the tracking history. As such, it took about 5 days before I got a tracking number. I called the Vac Warehouse and they told me it was shipping but couldn’t tell me the tracking number.
This was my first purchase from Vac Warehouse so I was a bit concerned. I wish they would have said it was coming direct from Miele and shipping confirmation would take a few days.
In the end, I got what I ordered, and all is good but it would have been nice to know why the tracking number was slow to arrive.
I have subsequently ordered additional attachments from the Vac Warehouse.
So far so good. It's a little heavier than I thought it would be and the manuals that come with could be a bit clearer. I suspect they are created in Europe and a bit different to many I've utilized for other purposes. I will also look for online sources...
Otherwise, ok. I prefer to test things as I encounter a use for them instead of trying to delve into each item/feature right off the bat.
I purchased this when my Dyson gave up. The Miele does.a great job on all floor surfaces as well as the debris left by my new English Springer spaniel puppy. (Her name is Tassie and Tassie and the Miele have a standoff every time I Vacum😀😀
