Description

The Austin Air Immunity Machine runs eight filtration phases instead of four, and the addition that matters is HEGA carbon cloth: a woven activated carbon fabric developed for military gas protection. 60 square feet of HEPA, a carbon and mineral bed, and coverage up to 1,500 square feet.

This is the most thorough machine Austin builds, and the reason is what sits alongside the usual carbon. Granular carbon adsorbs gases well in bulk; carbon cloth presents far more surface area for its weight and works on the light, fast-moving compounds that granular beds let slip. Add a mineral blend aimed at gases like ammonia and nitrogen dioxide, and the result is a machine built for air problems that are chemical rather than dusty.

Highlights

  • Eight filtration phases, against four on the standard machines, combining pre-filters, HEPA, granular carbon, zeolite, a mineral blend and HEGA carbon cloth
  • HEGA carbon cloth, a woven activated carbon fabric that adds gas adsorption surface area well beyond what granular carbon alone provides
  • Mineral-based media aimed at gases that are awkward for carbon on its own, including ammonia and nitrogen dioxide
  • 60 square feet of HEPA material, certified to capture 99.97 percent of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns and 99 percent down to 0.1 microns
  • Coverage up to 1,500 square feet, airflow up to 400 CFM, three speeds on a manual rotary switch, roughly 40 to 66 decibels
  • 360 degree perforated steel intake on caster wheels, so it draws from every side and rolls to wherever the problem is
  • No ozone emission, and certified to CSA, NRTL, CE and California ARB
  • Five year filter, five year mechanical warranty and five year pro-rated filter warranty, handcrafted in Buffalo, New York

Who it's for

  • New builds and major renovations, where off-gassing is coming from every surface at once rather than one room
  • Anyone whose air problem is chemical rather than particulate, and who has found that a standard HEPA machine did not change much
  • Shared spaces, clinics and offices where the widest possible filtration is worth paying for

Two things to be clear about. This is the top of the range and it is priced accordingly, so it is worth being honest about when it is not needed: if your concern is dust, pollen and pet dander, a standard machine does that job and the extra phases here are aimed elsewhere. And the filter is a single sealed canister, so at five years you replace the whole thing rather than a cheap insert. On this model that is a substantial cost and it should be part of the decision, not a surprise later.

Living with it

Day to day, nothing. Pick a fan speed and leave it. There is no app, no schedule and no sensor to second-guess.

Then periodically, vacuum the perforated housing so the intake stays clear, and consider a slip-on pre-filter if you have pets or a lot of dust: it catches the coarse material before it loads the main canister and can meaningfully extend its life. Heavy chemical exposure will shorten the filter's life, because the carbon and the cloth are doing the work.

FAQs

  • What is HEGA carbon cloth, and why does it matter?
HEGA stands for high efficiency gas adsorption. It is activated carbon in woven cloth form rather than loose granules, a format developed for military gas protection, and it offers far more adsorption surface for its weight. In practice it works on the lighter, faster-moving gases that a granular carbon bed can let pass, which is why it sits alongside the granular carbon here rather than replacing it.
  • What does eight phases actually mean?
Two pre-filter layers for coarse and medium particles, granular activated carbon, potassium iodide impregnated carbon, zeolite, a mineral blend, the HEGA cloth, and the HEPA. Each layer is aimed at a different part of the problem, and the reason for the count is that no single medium handles particles, odours, VOCs and gases like ammonia equally well.
  • Is this worth it over a standard machine?
If your problem is chemical, gases, off-gassing or persistent odours, yes, and that is what the extra phases are for. If your problem is dust, pollen and pet hair, a standard machine covers it and this would be capacity you do not use. We would rather tell you that before you buy.
  • How big a room will it handle?
Up to 1,500 square feet, with airflow to 400 CFM, the same as the full-size standard machines. One unit in the main affected space does more than several small ones spread around.
  • Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?
On low, around 40 decibels, comparable to a quiet fan. On high it is closer to 66 and audible. Many owners run it high during the day and low overnight.
  • Does it produce ozone?
No. It is a mechanical filter with a fan, so there is nothing generating ozone, and it holds California ARB certification along with CSA, NRTL and CE. That is worth checking on any air purifier you compare it against, because ionisers and some UV machines do emit ozone.
  • How often does the filter need replacing?
About five years in normal residential use, and it is one canister containing all eight phases. Heavy chemical or smoke exposure shortens that. It is the largest consumable cost of owning this machine and worth planning for.
  • What is the warranty, and can you service it?
Five years mechanical and five years pro-rated on the filter. We have a Richmond Hill showroom and our own repair department, so if anything needs sorting there is somewhere local to call rather than a support line in another country. Reach us at 1-877-220-5656.

Why buy from Vacuum Warehouse?

  • A Richmond Hill showroom on Yonge Street just north of Highway 7, where you can hear it on all three speeds before you decide, because decibel figures on a page tell you very little
  • An honest answer about whether you need this one, since it is the most expensive machine in the range and is not the right answer to every air problem
  • Our own repair department, so service is a local conversation rather than a shipping label
  • Free shipping over $99, 30 day returns and a 90 day price match
  • Toll-free support at 1-877-220-5656, before you buy and long after
